Foods In Season- Teuntje

Image
One of the best things to do if you want to beat your boredom is baking and cooking, I personally really enjoy this and spend alot of my time in the kitchen. A great way to make your cooking more enjoyable and fresh is using fruit that is in season. At the moment it is the last day of may, meaning tommorow will be june. I am going to be sharing some of the best foods that will be in season throughout the coming month.   Blackberries Corn Melons Courgettes Asparagus Beetroot Broad beans. Cauliflower. Cherries. French beans. Globe artichokes. Gooseberries. Here are some reasons why its better to buy with the seasons: 1. Your food will be riper and tastier because they have been naturally ripened and picked at the right time.   2. Not only will your food be fresher, it also actually cheaper to buy food in season. When a food is at its best it is in peak supply and will be sold for less money.  3. Eating seasonally also supports local produce and farmers because t...

Safe Outside Activities - Clara

Image
Safe outside activities  It can be hard to find time in your day to go outside but this is essential to ensure a positive attitude. Many people are reluctant to go outside but no matter the weather going outside for at least an hour a day is going to do you much help. There are many different activities that can be done outdoors but are still safe and maintain the distance rules. These can be done in parks in a clear space or as simple as in your garden.   I have gathered multiple activities for different age groups that are perfectly safe and fun. A big struggle is to continuously come up with fun activities for your kids to do outside so here are some ideas. Doing an obstacle course will keep kids from the age of 7 - 12 entertained and they will need little help. Go to a park or a clear field with little people and bring ropes, hoops, cones, ribbons, scooters, or anything that you can find around your house that could make for an obstacle course. Then create obsta...

Art and Culture at home-Gloria

Image
Don’t you miss going to the movies, the museum and the theatres? One of the things I’ve missed most, during this lockdown, has been culture and entertainment. Luckily, many museums have creatively proposed alternatives when we have to stay at home but still want to be stimulated by cultural encounters. One great example is this app from the museum of Mauritius in de Hague (The Netherlands.) This app has been created to give the audience the same experience as being physically there! This app gives you the opportunity to zoom into famous paintings, such as the “Girl with a Pearl Earring”, in extreme life-like detail. The app offers a virtual reality simulation in which you can see the museum inside and out. On top of this, there is also a voice guide available and hundreds of descriptions to paintings and artwork that are visible in the actual museum! This app offers many features and is a perfect way to spend time during this boring lockdown. Many other museums all over the world are p...

Staying motivated during lockdown- Clara

Image
Being in lockdown and staying home can make it very hard to have the motivation and energy to do things you enjoy. As seeing friends and maintaining your social life is difficult during these times it is important to make sure you are still thinking about yourself and your mental health and focusing on the things that you enjoy doing. This blog will be about some ideas to increase your motivation and help you maintain a positive attitude.  Coming up with a routine to follow is essential for staying relaxed and motivated because it will help you list your priorities and focus on what is important. You will stay on top of your work and feel organized which will essentially increase your free time. A helpful method of doing this is by starting off by listing your priorities for the day and how you will accomplish them. Then list the things that are still important to you but not as much of a priority and finally list the things you would like to have time to accomplish. After t...

Screentime During Lockdown-Teuntje

Image
When in lockdown its easy to spend a lot of time behind your screen, obviously we need to be behind our computer for school but we can try and switch between on and off screen when we are free from school. To make sure your eyesight doesn't get worse optometrists recommend that after 20 minutes of screentime you should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This is the 20-20-20 rule and is a very simple rule to implement into your daily life.  You can also substitute your screentime with other activities, obviously something outdoor such as a walk in a park or some outdoor activities by yourself (or with the amount of friends allowed in your country,) is best option but if the lockdown in your city doesn't allow that there are some other options for you. You can do something indoor such as an art project or an exercise video. Other articles on this blog will also help you with finding activities to do instead of your screen. Although we need to watch out with our screen...
